Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward an entry of 2,115 store hoggs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 5th March 2019.

Another excellent show of hoggs, again met a fast selling trade from a large ring of buyers with prices very similar. Top price was £86 for Beltex from Boreland, others to £79 West Hills. Texels to £80 West Hills, £78 Boreland, £77 Raggetsyke, £76 Derrie; Suffolks to £72.50 Hazelbank; North Cheviots to £82.50, £79 Hownam Grange, £76 Temon; Hill Cheviots to £78.50, £68.50 North House; Charollais to £78, £73 Moss Side; Romneys to £72.50 Hazelbank; Greyfaces to £74 South Thornberry, £69 Shankfield Head, £68 Whitfield Estate; Cheviot Mule to £76 Temon, £75 Archbank, £73 Derrie & Ladylands Drive; Blackfaces to £69 Townsheilds; Swaledales to £52.50 South Thornberry, £50.50, £48.50 Whitfield Estates; Herdwicks to £46, £42 Rowhead.

Feeding ewes (204) a similar trade to a top of £63 from Hazelbank; Greyfaces to £59 Cowden Burn, who also sold Texel cross at £50. Hill ewes to £47 for Cheviots from Archbank; Blackfaces to £39 Wardrew and Swaledales to £34 Over Cairn. Cast rams to £45 The Cooms.

Ericstane Flock Dispersal

The dispersal sale of the renowned Ericstane flock of 550 hill going North Country Cheviot ewes and ewe hoggs, together with 160 Texel cross ewes and ewe hoggs was a huge success. The sheep were in fine fettle and credit must go to Mrs Jane Jackson and her shepherd Mr Geordie Braid for their ability in presenting such a wonderful show of quality sheep. Buyers were present from all parts of the country and bidding was animated throughout the sale, resulting in an average considerably more than expected.

The leading price of the day was £700 for a NCC Park ewe hogg which sold to Ormerley Livestock, Derbyshire.
