Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward an entry of 2,461 store hoggs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 19th March 2019.
With all the usual buyers present and another good show of hoggs, trade was extremely sharp throughout with the highest rates of the season recorded.
Top of £83 for a Beltex hogg from Common House Farm. Texels to £81 Elmbank, £80 Greenburn & Romesbeoch. Suffolks to £81 Elmbank, £79, £78 Satchells. Charollais to £77 Low Old Shield and £73 Craigens. Cheviot Mules to £71 Marwhirn. Kerry Hills to £76 Newbigging Bush. Greyface to £79 Hamburn Hall, £78 Haliburton and £74 Greenburn. North Cheviots to £79.50, £76.50 Ballafayle, £76 Booilshuggel Farms. Hill Cheviots to £76.50 Archbank, £70 Ellary Farms, £68.50 Skelfhill, £68 Craigens & North House. Romneys to £73 Baljean Farm, £68.50, £68 Rammerscales. Feeding ewes and rams (243) were a larger show and a dearer trade. Top of £77 for Texels from Kilberry. Greyface to £68 New Farm. Hill ewes to £60 Tanlawhill and £58 Burnfoot of Ewes, £53 Kilberry and £51 Alexander Drive. Blackface to £44 from Kilberry. Cast rams to £75 for Cheviots from Tanlawhill.
At the first sale of the season for ewes and lambs, there was a quality entry forward. Buyers were plentiful with trade surpassing all vendors expectations. Hoggs with singles sold to £73 each for Texels from Dockray Hall.
Then to £70 each for Cheviot Mule ewes and single lambs from Sornfallow, who also sold twins at £67 each. Shearlings sold to £67 for both Suffolk crosses and Texels with twins from Dockray Hall, who also sold Suffolk crosses and singles at £65 each.
