C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 708 store hoggs and cast ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 9th April 2019.

There was a smaller entry of hoggs, buyers extremely keen, all classes met an incredible trade to average £73.17 overall, easily the dearest trade of the season. Top £97 for a Texel from Moss Hill, others to £94 Keepershields & Ericstane. Beltex to £95 Downan; Suffolks to £92 & £91 Keepershield, £88 Corries Mill, £85 Shield Green; Charollais to £93 Bowershield; North Country Cheviots to £95 & £94 & £89 Ericstane; Cheviot Mule to £85 Blakehopeburnhaugh, £81 Mains of Machermore; Greyfaces to £84 & £78 Spencycroft, £75 Rigg Shield, £74 Downan; Hill Cheviots to £85 & £84 Blackhall (ex. Hermitage); Blackfaces to £74 Blakehopeburnhaugh; Beulah to £71 Howcleugh; Kerry Hills to £69 Rigg Shield.

Feeding ewes a strong trade. Top £91 for a Texel from Blakehopeburnhaugh, with hill ewes to £62 for Cheviots from Blackhall (ex. Hermitage). Cast rams to £110 for a Charollais from Blackhall (ex. Hermitage).

Ewes & Lambs

A much larger show of ewes and lambs came forward with a large ringside of buyers forward, with all vendors being happy with their day’s trading. Particularly strong demand for ewes with strong lambs. Sale topped at £86 for an outstanding Texel ewe with single lamb at foot from H. Lawson, East Mains, closely followed at £81 for an outfit from the same home.
