Annual Kintyre Sheep Sale Report

A catalogued entry of 100 rams and 600 breeding and store sheep attracted a strong crowd on a sunny day at the Campbeltown Show Field for the Kintyre Agricultural Society with a good trade resulting.
Shearling rams averaged £305 overall with Bluefaced Leicesters selling to £600 from J. & M Turner, Kildaloig to J. Armour & Co., Brennanlea. Other Leicesters to £450 (twice) from Dalbrhaddan. A North Country Cheviot shearling from Sue Francis, Balure went to Ballywilline Farm at £600. Suffolks topped at £520 and £450 from Glenahervie and £500 and £450 from Gartvaigh. Texels made £520 twice, firstly from Macrihanish Farm and then from Low Tirfergus with High Dalrioch at £480. Beltex went to £450 (twice) from Killacraw with Charollais to £400 Inverae Cottage. Ram lambs topped at £320 for a Texel from Low Tirfergus.
In the gimmer section, Mules sold to £115 and £112 from Skernish and £112 from Low Ranachan with Blackfaces also to £115 from Brennanlea, Beltex crosses £120 Kildalloig and Blue Texel gimmers from Low Ranachan at £130.
Low Ranachan had Blue Texel ewe lambs at £95 with Texel and Beltex ewe lambs £75 and £62 off Ifferdale. Mule and other ewe lambs made to £62 Auchaleek and £60 Low Tirfergus. Blackface ewe lambs topped at £52 Coulinlongart. Store lambs to £51 Kildaloig.
