Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 6,768 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 8th October 2019.
Another large show of lambs, attracted many buyers from the South, together with local feeders. Trade was again dearer for all classes, where many more could have been sold to advantage.
Top of £71 for Texels from Awhirk, others to £70 Shaw Head, £68.50 High Loveladyshield; Beltex to £71 Gillside; Suffolk to £61 Satchells; Charollais to £59 Quarryfield; Greyfaces to £70.50 High Burnfoot, £62 Rise Head, £61 Allens Green, £58 High Loveladyshield & Low Stokoe; Cheviot Mules to £66 Skipness Estate; Dorsets to £64 Scroggie Meadows; Roussin to £54 Dyke; Herdwicks to £39.50 Bonnyrigg Hall; Swaledales to £32.50 & £31 Underbanks.
Feeding ewes a large show of nearly 600 were again easily sold to a top of £85 for Texels from Tiretigan Farm, who sold Beltexs to £75. Hill ewes to £45 for Blackfaces from Glenoe Estates; £47 for Cheviots from Skipness Estate.
Hill Cheviots (1,454) were in short supply for the many buyers around the ringside with best lambs making £55 to £60, to a top of £63 for a pen from Sorbietrees, Hillend, £59 Park Hill, £58 Hopsrigg, £57.50 Twislehope.
At the special sale saw an entry of 2,075 Blackfaces which were a top quality show, buyers were present from a wide area, trade was sharp throughout with all pens meeting the best trade of the season. Top to £57 Allensgreen, £54.50 Wooplaw & School Road, £53.50 Collin Bank, £52.50 Lamperts.
