Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 7,242 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 6th October 2020.
Another excellent show of lambs attracted a large company of distant buyers, along with locals, trade was again excellent throughout the sale with everything on offer easily finding new homes.
Top of £87 for Suffolks from Sark Tower, others to £83 & £82 Routin Lynn, £81 High Chesters; Texels to £87 from Sark Tower, £85 The Barrocks, £82.50 East Foreshield; Beltexs to £83 Knells Cottage; Dutch Texels to £74.50 Greenside; Charollais to £78.50 Shaw Cottage; Half Breds to £75.50 Courstein; Greyfaces to £78.50 Sark Tower, £77 Barsalloch, £76 Penpeugh; Cheviot Mules to £71 Carrowbrough, £70 The Flatt (Atkinson); Leicester to £75 The Flatt (Atkinson); Swaledales to £51 Hesleywell, £47 Ouston.
Feeding ewes (406) to £88 for Texel from Barnbackle; hill breeds to £75 for Cheviots from Cumstone. Cast rams to £135 for a Texel from Carrowbrough.
Cheviot (2,195) another good entry met a big trade, with many buyers present and leaving unsupplied. Top of £80 for North Country Cheviots from Sark Tower, others to £71 Keilder Head, £69 & £68.50 Lymiecleugh. Hill Cheviots to £70 Cooms, £69 Priesthaugh & Glendinning & Hall Meadows.
At the special sale of Blackfaces (2,566) a good entry included many annual consignments; trade was buoyant throughout with prices at extreme level. Top £82 from Stell Green, others to £78 Wooplaw, £69 Sewing Shields, £67 Collin Bank.
