Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 3,072 head at their annual sale of store hoggs, cast ewes and rams at Longtown on Tuesday 5th January 2021.
Store hoggs were a quality show which attracted a very large ring of buyers, trade can only be described as out of this world with lowland hoggs averaging £96.51 per head.
Top price was £200 for a Beltex hogg donated to Cancer Research UK, given by annual vendor Robbie Muir from Tow Law whose run of 418 hoggs averaged £96.14.

Hill lambs also a gigantic trade to average £61.87 overall. Top of £95 for Blackfaces from Edges Green, others £90 Merkland; Hill Cheviots to £93 from Swinside, others £92.50, £89, £87.50 Douglas Hall; Swaledale £74.50 Sheepriggs.
Both cast rams and ewes were in extreme demand and short of requirements. Top of £129 for Texel ewes from Relief, £115, £109 Backburn; Suffolk £107 Backburn, £104 Muirfield; Romney £96 Backburn; Greyface £91 Backburn, £87 Ormiston. Hill ewes to £85 for Cheviots from Muirfield with Blackfaces to £56.50 Selcoth. Cast rams to £117 for a Texel from Relief; Charollais £114 Backburn; Zwartbles £107 Keyla Park; Hill Cheviot £95 Solwaybank; Blackface £96 Penpeugh, £91, £85 Blackburn.
