Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts had forward a much larger entry of ewes with lambs at foot on Tuesday 27th April 2021. A much-increased ringside of purchasers with several bulk purchasers in attendance. All ewes being well bid for, surpassing all local centres, many more required.

Leading todays sale was 2 pure Texel one crop ewes with Dutch Spotted tup lambs at foot, these sold at £205 & £195 per life.

The highlight of the sale was the annual consignment of pure Texels from WJ & JG Bell, Kinning Hall, who’s consignment averaged £107.66, topping at £160 & £145 x 2.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 681 store hoggs and feeding ewes at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 27th April.

With more buyers present and a great entry for the time of year, trade was animated throughout, with recent high rates easily maintained.

Top £123 & £117 for Texels from Mains of Machermore, others to £119, £117 The Crook (Blacklock); Mules to £117 Fell of Lochronald; Hill Cheviots to £117, £115 The Bloch; Blackfaces to £108 Fell of Lochronald; Suffolks to £105 Coolingell; North Country Cheviots to £119 Cloggers Cottage; Easycares to £81, £80 Coolingel; Herdwicks to £75 Row Head.

Feeding ewes (71) another strong trade. Top £100 for a Texel from The Crook (Blacklock). Hill ewes to £70 for Blackfaces from Highmoor; Herdwicks to £60 Coolingel. Cast rams to £114 for Texels from Mains of Machermore, who also sold Cheviots at £101.
