Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 7,729 store lambs at their weekly sale on Wednesday 15th September 2021.
All buyers were keener to buy and with another good entry, trade was fast and furious from start to finish, with all classes dearer.
Top £102 for Texels from East Foreshield, £100.50 Aimshaugh, £100 Craigshield; Suffolks to £102, £93, £92, £90 Heathfield, Orkney; Beltex to £94 Priory Nook; Charollais to £91.50 Banks Head; Bleu Du Maine to £80 Craigshield; Greyfaces to £88, £80 Laverhay, £83, £82.50, £81 Southdean, £81 Westerhall & South Arran; Cheviot Mules to £87.50 Penlaw, £86 Satchells; Hampshires to £84 The Dyke; Kendal Rough to £65 Church View.
Feeding ewes to £80 South Arran Farms, who sold hill ewes at £79. Cast rams to £77 South Arran Farms.
It was the premier prize show and sale for Cheviots, were there was a fantastic quality entry of 3,078. Many buyers were present from far and near, trade was buoyant throughout with most vendors up £10 per head on the year. Overall average was £76.16. Willie Skilling was in charge of the judging, whose awards were as follows;

Other top prices were £86 Aimshaugh, £84 Effgill, £80 Glendinning & Commonside, £79 Chanlockfoot & Windyhaugh & Lawesknowe & Borthwickshiels, £78 The Dodd & Satchells.
It was also the special sale of Blackface lambs, were there was a good quality entry of 1,817. Again, buyers were keen, with all classes meeting a very strong demand.
