Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 8,012 store lambs at their weekly sale on Tuesday 12th October 2021.
Another large entry attracted extra distant buyers, the trade of the century happened with all classes meeting an absolutely incredible demand, many more could have easily been sold.
The feature of the sale was 991 Texel Beltex x lambs from Messrs Feakins, Harwood House, Bonchester Bridge, Hawick, whose top was £105 and £100 for a pen of 198.
Top £115 for Texels from Zoe Green, Lockhills, others to £110 Priesthaugh & Shaw Cottage, £109 Welldon & Bushfield; Beltex to £100 Sorbie; Dutch Texels to £101, £99, £94 Greenside; Suffolks to £107, £102 Priesthaugh, £100 Wylliesyke, £97 Shaw Cottage; Charollais to £107 Dacre Road; Greyfaces to £97 High Keenley Fell, £92.50 Elsdon, £88.50 Southdean; Cheviot Mules to £102 Skelfhill; Half-Breds to £87 Cronklea,; Lleyns to £87, £85 Dolphinston; Kerry Hills to £77 Bank Head.
Feeding ewes (570) a sound trade. Top £103 for Texels from Crow Hall Farm, others to £100 Newton Farm; Greyfaces to £89 Silloans; Lleyns to £85 Dolpinston. Hill ewes to £67 for Beulah from Howcleugh; Blackfaces to £62 Gillalees. Cast rams to £180 and £121 for Texels from Newton Farm, others to £116 Barnbackle.
Cheviot lambs (2,362) a good entry with a red-hot trade followed many more could have easily been sold. Top £100 for a single Hill Cheviot from Messrs Murray, Branxholm Braes, which was donated to Cancer Research UK, others to £88 Branxholm Braes, £87 Skelfhill and Glendinning. Hill Northies to £90 Routin Lynn, £89 Raeburnfoot, £88 Shepherds Cottage.
Blackface lambs (1,923) not as many strong lambs but trade again excellent. Top £87 for a pen from Messrs Murray, Sewingshields, £81 Sundhope & Balmurrie, £79.50 High Green Manor.
