Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 2,164 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown at their weekly sale on Tuesday 21st December 2021.

A respectable show for the time of the year met a firmer trade on the week, with more buyers present, many more could have been sold.

Top £127 & £112 for Greyfaces from Messrs PS Tindale, Wydon Eals, Haltwhistle, and also to £127 for Beltex from Messrs McHale, Park House, Heads Nook; Texels to £126 & £125 from North Synton, others to £125 Gillalees & Park House (McHale), £122 Rinnion Hills; Suffolks to £118 Ullerbank, £110 Hudspeth & Hall Dykes; Charollais to £107 Moss Side (Baxter); Cheviot Mules to £117 Rendle; North Cheviots to £109 North Synton; Romneys to £106 Hall Dykes, £94 Holm Farm (Maxwell).

Hill lambs to £100, £93 The Bloch, £96 Twislehope, £91 Blakehope; Blackfaces to £97 & £91 Kersknowe, £89 Blakehope, £87 Barron House; Jacobs to £83 Dykeside; Herdwicks to £69 Shortrigg; Swaledales to £63 Millbeck Hall.

Feeding ewes (198) another exceptional trade. Top £157 for a Texel from Craig Farming; Greyfaces to £98 Ballagan; North Cheviots to £126 Blakehope. Hill ewes to £80 for Cheviots from The Bloch; Blackfaces to £79 Blakehope, who also sold Swaledales at £60. Cast rams to £74 for Blackfaces from Blakehope.
