“LONGTOWN LADIES” TO 8,500 GUINEAS
The eighth annual “Longtown Ladies” sale of pedigree breeding sheep was held on Monday evening, 10th January. There was a high quality entry which attracted much interest, both in the mart and on-line, and trade was very strong throughout, surpassing all earlier season sales.
Overall, 161 head averaged £1,035 with the 90 Texel gimmer shearlings levelling at £1,268. 51 sheep sold for 1,000 guineas or more. There was a 96% selling rate with over half the lots attracting on-line bidding on the Marteye bidding platform and 20% of the sheep were bought by these bidders.
