Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward a massive show of 2,000 in lamb ewes at their sale on Tuesday 8th February 2022 at Longtown.

With customers from the full length of the country, from Aberdeen to Devon, with a mass of Welsh customers also present, resulting in an animated trade surpassing all vendors expectation. Many purchasers going home empty handed.

Highlight of the sale would be the outstanding run of Texel x Scotch Mule stock ewes from Billy Nairn, Shieldhill, who topped at £218 & £208 for Scotch Mule gimmers; £212 & £205 for Texel ewes. With 16 of his pens of sheep selling at £200 plus, to average £191.96 for his run of 451 regular aged ewes.

Jordan McGowan, Old Hemp, Stranraer sold Cheviot Mule gimmers to £225 & £220; Mule gimmers to £202 & £195, with numerous pens of three & four crop Mule ewes selling between £175 and £184. Leaving his runs of predominately Mule ewes averaging £174.36.

Many more could be sold to vendors advantage, with auctioneers actively looking for entries for our next sale on Tuesday 22nd February.
