Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 2,696 store hoggs, feeding ewes & cast rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 22nd March 2022.

Another tremendous show for the time of year attracted a good ring side of buyers, all classes met the strongest trade for several weeks, with numbers short of requirement.

Top £121 for North Cheviots from Kelsocleugh Farming; Suffolks to £119 from Ellerslea, others to £115 Lordstown, £109 Swaites; Texels to £117 Ballochgair, £115 Swaites, £113 Field Head; Beltexs to £116 Ellerslea, £111 Stoneknowe & Broom Hills, £110 Shankcastle; Charollais to £100 Douglas Hall, £99 Hallrule Mill; Greyfaces to £115 Winter Crag, £102 Newtown; Easycares to £83, £82, £81 Chatton Park.

Hill hoggs sold to £109 from Blackburn, £94 Redesmouth; Cheviots to £107 The Bloch & Rowhope, £100 Rowhope, £98 The Bloch; Herdwicks to £87 Newtown Farm, £75 Margher-E-Kew; Swaledales to £75 Margher-E-Kew.

Feeding ewes (214) another gigantic trade. Top £110 for a Bluefaced Leicester from Booilshuggell Farm; Texels to £100 Swaites; Suffolks to £95 Hallrule Mill; Charollais to £115 Hallrule Mill; Greyfaces to £107 Booilshuggell; Romneys to £102 Meiklebob, who also sold Lleyns at £98.
Hill ewes to £99 for Cheviots from The Bloch; Blackfaces to £95 Blakehope, £93 Killeonan; Swaledales to £60 South Croft; Herdwicks to £71 Winter Crag.

Cast rams to £191 for a Texel from West Hottbank; Blackfaces to £96 Earlshaugh, £91 West Hottbank.
