Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their weekly sale of 5,157 store lambs at Longtown on Tuesday 16th August 2022.
With more buyers around, a quality show of lambs including several good runs, trade was buoyant throughout with all classes a touch sharper.
Top £116 for Beltex from Greenwell Meadows, others to £109 Pallet Hill; Texels to £112 Highfield Farming, £106 Shepherds Cottage & Westcote, £103 Tarrasfoot; Suffolks to £103 High Keenly Fell, £97 Kelsocleugh & Castlehill & Elmbank; Cheviot Mules to £95 Whitchester, £94 Archbank, £92 Catslackburn; Charollais to £84 Nether House; Cheviots to £91 Kelsocleugh, £85 Satchells; Mules £94 The Row, £92 Haliburton, £89 Satchells; Jacobs to £73 Dun-Mor; Blackfaces to £67 Haliburton. Feeding ewes to £88 for Texels from Flatt (Atkinson); Blackfaces to £60 Barkbeth.
Incorporated into the weekly sale was the Annual Prize Show and Sale of Mule lambs. All classes met a tremendous trade to average £77.33 which was £8.59 up on the year. The show was very ably judged by Chris Brodie, Allfornaught, whose awards were as follows;

The Ian Rutter Memorial Trophy for the champion pen of Alston Moor Mule lambs was awarded to Messrs Moore, Softley.
A small show of breeding sheep was forward, topping the sale at £195 for Texel shearlings from J Metcalfe, Brookside, who also sold others to £178, £172, £170, £168. Roussin shearlings to £185, £176, £168 from D & L Steen, Coxhill, who also Dutch Spotted shearlings to £162. Many more are required for our next sale on Wednesday 31st August.
