Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their weekly sale of 7,487 store lambs at Longtown on Tuesday 30th August 2022.
A large show of lambs attracted a good ring of buyers all day, although south buyers not about due to the drought. Strong lambs were a similar trade, with medium and smalls easier on the week. top £113 for Beltex from Spittal Riding Hill, Annan, others to £100 Felton Demense; Texels to £111 Highfield Farming, £105 Rinnion Hills, £103 Hopsrigg, £101 East Foreshield; Suffolks to £102 East Foreshields, £96 Tarrasfoot, £95 Park Nook; Cheviot Mules to £80 Harehead; Cheviots to £80 Mallsgate Hall, £73 High Chesters, £71 Hownam Grange; Charollais to £81 & £80 Monk Farm; Easycares to £85 East Fortissat; Blackfaces to £70 Merkland, £64 Laverhay.
At the special sale of Greyface Mule lambs, there was a fantastic entry of 1,918 quality lambs. Trade was very good right through, best end £80 upwards to a top of £89 from Upper Chatto, £88 Harehead, £88, £87 Hesleywell, with mediums making between £72 and £78.
Feeding ewes (189) sold to a top of £88 & £81 for Easycares from Glenlea, who also sold Greyfaces to £75; Herdwicks to £64 Dykehead.
