Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their weekly sale of 8,983 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Wednesday 14th September 2022.
Another large entry saw a poorer show, top end lambs scarcer, there was a lot more competition around the ringside from several distant buyers. Trade would be dearer all round on the week.
Top £111 & £107 for Beltex lambs from Ellerslea, Bridge End; Texels to £110 Allensgreen, £109 Ramseycleugh, £103 Green Head; Suffolks to £101 Hall Meadow; Greyfaces to £91 Edgesgreen, £90 Horsley Hill, £86 Hall Meadow; Blackfaces to £69 Haliburton, £60 Riskenhope & The Row, £56 Lochryan.
Feeding ewes (215) all classes much dearer. Top £79 for Hill Cheviots from Archbank & Blaebeck, £75 Davington; Woodlands to £73 Portgate Farm. Rams to £79 for Texels from Howcleugh, who also sold Beulahs to £65.
It was the main special prize show and sale of Cheviot lambs, where there was an outstanding entry of 3,713 to judge. Trade was good all round, although lambs in general smaller. Judging was in the capable hands of Allan, Scott, Wooler, whose awards were as follows:

North Cheviots
1st - Archbank Farming - £81
2nd - Loder, Upper Chatto - £82
