Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their weekly sale of 9,163 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 4th October 2022.

A top-quality show of lambs this week with the most buyers present this season, trade was sharper throughout, with all classes meeting a strong trade.

Top £126 & £115 for Suffolks from Messrs Hourie, Heathfield, Orkney, others to £111 & £110 Raggithwhaite; Texels to £118 & £109 Southwoodhead, £109 & £103 Heathfield, £109 Kernal Hill; Charollais to £91 Monk; Greyfaces to £105 Hillbrae, £97 Grindon Hill, £95 Low Old Shield; Cheviot Mule to £99 Kirkhouse; Beltex to £99 White Hurworth, £97 & £96 Sorbie; Leicester to £90 Hillbrae; Easycare to £75 & £72 Fallowfield; Herdwick to £65 Buttermere Close; Blackfaces to £81 Beech Cottage, £80 Allensgreen, £77 Beech Cottage; Shetland to £60 Monk; Swaledales to £38 East Stobbylea.

Feeding ewes (216) all classes dearer. Top £162 for a Texel from Wiley Syke; Suffolks to £80 Muirfield; Greyfaces to £109 Hullerbank. Hill ewes to £60 for Herdwicks from Roundstonefoot; Blackfaces to £59 The Mains. Cast rams to £96 & £95 Low Old Shield.

Cheviots (2,536) a bigger show with trade the same, quite a few selling to Welsh buyers. Top £103 for Northies from Raggithwhaite, others to £95 & £87 Kirkhouse, £85 Hepple Hill. Hill Cheviots to £95 Langhope, £88 Roundstonefoot, £80 Windyhaugh & Glendinning.
