C&D Auction Marts held their weekly sale of store hoggs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 2nd May 2023. All classes remain in demand, realising last weeks high rates of return, albeit a very mixy show forward.

A much larger entry of ewes with lambs met a huge enquiry, selling to a high of £116 for a three shear Texel x ewe and strong lamb with others at £112 from the same home.

The annual first show and sale of hoggs with lambs at foot met a keen enquiry, albeit with trade easier on the year with the slow grass growth and cool temperatures not helping. The sale was led at £138 by the champion pen from annual consignors Messrs Taylor, The Harras for the first prize pen of Texel x hoggs, ably judged by James Lyle, Staingills, whose awards are as follows;
