Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 5,036 store lambs at their weekly sale at Longtown on Wednesday 23rd August 2023.
A similar entry, with quality not as good, attracted buyers from from Hereford, Bridgenorth and Bakewell, together with locals. Trade was again buoyant with all classes a similar trade to the previous week, more could easily been sold.
Top price was £125 & £117 for Texels from Townhead (Marley), others to £120 & £119 Kilberry Home, £113 Hawthornside; Beltex to £122 Kilberry Home; Suffolks to £109 Bradley, £106 Grahamsfield, £103 The Binks; Charollais to £119 Faradale; Greyfaces to £93 Gibblaston, £86 Balliemore, £85 The Row; Roussins to £116 Boreland; Cheviots to £119 & £115 Boreland; Blackfaces to £77 Allensgreen, £68 The Row, £67 Faradale; Jacobs to £70 Briery Square, who sold Dutch Spotted at £78.
Feeding ewes (305) sold a lot dearer, to a top of £173 for Texels from Faradale, £172 Boreland; Suffolks to £127 Faradale; Charollais to £101 Faradale; Greyfaces to £148 & £118 Faradale, £108 Dale House; Leicester to £113 Faradale; Blackfaces to £70 Butterbridge; Swaledales to £49 Faradale. Cast rams to £152 for a Roussin from Boreland; Texels to £113 Boreland; Cheviots to £132 Boreland; Blackfaces to £78 Butterbridge.
