Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 6,953 store lambs at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 29th August 2023.

Another good show for numbers and quality, attracted buyers from Worcester to North Wales, together with locals. All classes met an excellent trade, with recent high rates more than maintained.

Top £111 for Texels from Kilberry Home Farm, others to £109 Paddockhole; Beltex to £111 Causey View, £105 Kinrive & Kilberry Home Farm; Suffolks to £107 Ragithwhaite, £100 Far Howe; Dutch Texel to £99 & £95 Greenwell Meadows; Cheviots to £87 & £81 Kinrive; Charollais to £86 Dipton; Cheviot Mule to £88 Harehead; Blackfaces to £82 Whitchester; Romeys to £77 Rammerscales; Easycares to £70 Ardovie.

At the second sale of Greyface Mule lambs, there was an entry of 1,468, trade much sharper than the main sale. Top £99 Gibblaston, £94 Gall, £93 Hepple Hill, £90 Harehead.

Feeding ewes (293) a stronger trade. Top £95 for Texels from Ballagan, who also sold Greyfaces at £79 and Cheviot Mules at £89.
