Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 9,858 store lambs at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 19th September 2023.
Another big show with some outstanding quality on offer, buyers again strong for lambs with all classes slightly dearer.
Top £116 for Beltex from Halfway House, Acomb, others to £108 Sorbie & Beckstones; Texels £114 from Halfway House, £113 Heathfield, £112 Lea Hill; Suffolks to £113 Heathfield, £108 Bank & Englishtown, £104 Highfield ; Greyfaces to £108 East Stobbylea, £99 Tanlawhill, £97 Raggithwhaite; Cheviot Mules to £108 Effgill; Charollais to £96 Monk; Lleyns to £68 Dolphinston; Kerry Hills to £68 Newbiggin Bush; Easycares to £69 & £68 East Fortissat; Swaledales to £46 East Stobbylea.
Feeding ewes (570) more buyers operating trade similar. Top £124 for Texels from Ballagan; Suffolks to £100 Escart; Greyfaces to £82 Skipness; Beltex to £98 Moss Hill. Hill ewes to £83 for Cheviots from Skipness, £82 East Redford Green; Blackfaces to £60 Skipness, £56 Moss Side; Swaledales to £52 Hesleywell. Cast rams to £70 for Beltex from Carrownbrough.
Cheviots (2,429) again met a strong trade for best sorts. Hill Cheviots to £84 Over Kirkhope & Blackhall, others to £81 Crossdykes & East Redford Green. North Cheviots to £98 & £97 Tanlawhill, £95 & £89 Heathfield. Blackfaces (2,232) again easy to sell with top draws the strongest trade. Top £91 Beech Cottage, £81 Sundhope & Townshields, £77 Sewing Sheilds.
Included in the sale was the annual consignment of 600 from TAD & JD Hourie, Heathfield, Orkney, there was the usual high quality again forward, with trade at extreme rates, his top was £113 for Suffolks and Texels.
