The North Country Cheviot Sheep Society Sale of shearling and two-shear Park and Hill rams
A crowded ringside but a more selective trade than last year with the best meeting strong competitive demand but more caution being exercised over the mid-range sheep.
127 registered rams sold to average £374, a fall of £27 on the year for a similar number sold.
Topping the sale at £1,600 was R. & T. Dun, Gilston, Heriot with a shearling by Belmaduthy Blaze which went to J. Runciman & Sons, Allanshaws. W.D. Allen, Humbleheugh, Alnwick took £1,350 for a Carruthers Xavi son, purchased by J. Capper, Valehurst, Kirkby Stephen with another shearling from Humbleheugh going at £1,200 to Churchstile Farming, Seascale.
Other £1,200 sales were made by Mrs Diana Walton`s Wandylaw Flock for a three-shear, to J. & E. Cambell, Chathill and by Messrs Matthewson & Son, Soutra for a shearling which went to Grain Farms, Hebdon Bridge. Soutra sold another at £950 with £800 to R. & T. Dun. Leading the Hill-types was a £700 sale from Messrs Anderson, Priesthaugh.
