Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 7,731 store lambs at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 26th September 2023.
A smaller but better quality show of lambs attracted a big company of buyers, trade was exceptional with the best trade so far this season, many more could have easily been sold.
Top £118 for Texels from East Foreshield, Alston, others to £116 Edgerston; Beltex to £110 The Hagg, £108 & £107 Waterhead Cottage, £106 Bushfield; Suffolks to £106 Shield, £101 Skelfhill, £100 Edgerston; Greyfaces to £105 & £92 Nether House, £91 Skelfhill, £90 Tecket; Cheviot Mules to £90 Skelfhill; Charollais to £98 Shaw Head; Hampshire to £101 Aar-Dar; Romneys to £86 Kinnel Cutty; Swaledales to £68 Laverhay.
Feeding ewes (416) in short supply and very dear. Top £110 for Texels from Goslingmire. Hill ewes to £73 for Cheviots from Priesthaugh; Blackfaces to £68 High Creoch. Cast rams to £94 for Easycare from Dolphinston.
Cheviots (2,812) a very high quality entry and a trade to match, mostly up £5 on the week, more could have easily been sold. Top £101 for North Hill Cheviots from Northway, £97 & £95 & £94 Courstein. Hill Cheviots to £84 Binks & Blackhall & Chanlochfoot, £82 Glendinning & Arkleton, £80 Easter Alemoor.
Blackfaces (1,093) a smaller entry with trade very good. Top £90 from Burdonside, £71 Townshields, £70 Chaplehope.
