Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 7,872 store lambs and feeding ewes at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 31st October 2023.

 Another good entry all classes maintained late high rates, with the exception of strong lambs which were easier against the current prime trade.

Top £112 & £110 for Texels from Gilesbie Farms, others to £110 Longrigg, £107 Waterhead Cottage, £106 Barkbeth & Waterhead of Dryfe; Beltex to £106 & £105 from Beckstones, £104 Viewly, £101 Barkbeth; Dutch Texels to £96 & £95 Greenside; Suffolks to £98 Cragg Farm, £96 & £92 Reddis Hill; Charolais to £102 Greenside; Greyfaces to £95 Swaites, £94 Waterhead Cottage, £90 Hightown; Cheviot Mules to £90 Gillesbie Farms & West Rennington; Romneys to £84 & £80 Castlemilk; Badgerfaces to £76 Low Bridge End; Herdwicks to £96 Barquhar Bungalow; Shetlands to £49 Thirwell Gardens, £46 Carlcroft; Swaledales to £84 Ruffside.

Cheviots (2,385) another big entry and dear. Top £95 for Hill Northies from Drumyenmore, £90 Skelfhill & Gillesbie Farms & Lymiecleugh. Hill Cheviots to £89 Mainside, £88 Granton, £86 Falnash, £85 Skelfhill.

Blackfaces (1,899) dearer on the week. Top £84 Edgesgreen, £83 Balmurrie, £81 Brewery House Barn.

A small show of breeders met a ready demand. Top £92 for Greyfaces ewe lambs from Upper Hindhope; Cheviot Mule ewe lambs to £80 from The Bayles; Blackface ewe lambs to £70 The Row. Ewes to £75 for Greyfaces (correct below) from Causey View.
