Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 5,043 store lambs and feeding ewes at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 28th November 2023.

A smaller show attracted many prospective buyers, trade was animated all day with all classes the dearest trade of the season, many more could have easily been sold.

Top £128 for Texels from West Lodge South, others to £124 North Synton, £123 Edgerston Home Farm; Beltex to £123 Burnside, £121 West Lodge South; Suffolks to £127 Drinkstone, £123 Burnside, £118 Roanstree & Edgerston Home Farm; Charollais to £124 Moss Side (Baxter); Greyfaces to £111 Kirkton Hill, £106 West Lodge South, £103 South Slealands; Cheviot Mules to £110 West Lodge South; Lleyns to £99 The Height; Hampshire to £109 (x2) Barnhill, Herdwicks to £41 Moss Side (Shuttleworth).

Feeding ewes (425) similar trade. Top £105 for a Leicester from Crinkledykes; Texels to £100 The Barrocks; Suffolks to £94 Kernal Hill; Greyfaces to £83 Crindledykes; Cheviot Mules to £80 Priesthaugh. Hill ewes to £78 for Cheviots from Moss Side (Shuttleworth), £75 Priesthaugh; Blackfaces to £67 Blackburn; Herdwicks to £38 Low Bridge End. Cast rams to £58 Gillalees.
