Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 4,552 store lambs and feeding at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 12th December 2023.

Another good show and more distant buyers present, trade was again exceptional with late high rates more than maintained.

Feeding ewes (367) no change. Top £100 for Greyfaces from West Hottbank; Texels to £96 Towsbank, £95 Low Craiglemine; Blue Texels to £95 Tara, who also sold Lleyns to £87 and Easycares to £70.

Hill ewes to £84 for Cheviots from Rowhope; Blackfaces to £62 Alnham Castlehill; Herdwicks to £44 Orthwaite Hall.

Hill Cheviots (1,360) more numbers and a good trade. Top £102 & £95 Granton, £91 Cooms, £88 Newham Hagg, £86 Solwaybank, £84 Rowhope.

Blackfaces (760) scarcer and dearer caused by the light lamb export. Top £87 Earlshaugh, £79 & £74 The Hott, £74 Townshields, £73 Upperburnmouth.
