Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C & D Auction Marts held their weekly sale of 7,526 Store Lambs on Tuesday 10th  September 2024.

A smaller show of store sheep forward on the week. A much larger entry of longer keep lambs forward with a shortage of short keep lambs. Many new faces appearing around the ringside took advantage of the numbers of store sheep placed in front of them.  Topping today were a pen of Suffolks from A C Barbour, Keil, Campbeltown at £130, followed by a pen of 47 Texel x lambs from Longformacus Farms, Berwickshire realising £124.

Here at Longtown Auction Mart we held our first Cheviot & Blackface store lamb sale with a show of 1705 Cheviots and 1152 Blackfaces, topping the Cheviot section was a pen of lambs from Yethouse Fields, Newcastleton realising £104. Topping the Blackface section was a pen of Blackface tup lambs from A Murray & Sons, Sewing Shields.

A larger show of 359 feeding ewes forward met a sharper trade with plenty of purchasers on the hunt for feeding sheep,many more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage. Topping today at £200 for 2 fantastic Texel ewes from H R C Mcculloch & Co, Kilmichael Farm.
