Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction marts held their sale of 4,385 breeding sheep of all classes at Longtown on Wednesday 16th October 2024.

A seasonal show of breeding sheep sold to a packed ring of potential purchasers.

Ewe lambs topped at £320 for a pair of pure bred Texel ewe lambs consigned by M/s Bell, Kirkton, with running lambs proving slightly harder to cash.

Gimmer shearlings sold to recent rates, topping at £205 for Texel cross cheviot shearlings, consigned again by M/s Bell, Kirkton. Mules proved to still be in demand, topping at £200 for a pen of 32, with a pen of 49 realising the same price.

A big show of breeding ewes for the time of year sold to the same ring of potential purchasers with top end ewes still in big demand, topping at £220 for a pen of North Country Cheviot Park type ewes consigned by M/s Macdonald, West Blackbyre, with others to £200.
