Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C & D Auction Marts held their weekly sale of 6,011 Store Lambs at Longtown on Tuesday 10th December 2024.

Store lamb numbers just keep on coming and are met by a ringside full of buyers, travelling from up and down the country to witness the quality and numbers put in front of them on a weekly basis here at Longtown. Short keep lambs still in huge demand. 

The sale topped at £185 for a Suffolk cross lamb from Kelsocleugh Farming, Yetholm. Texel lambs sold to £159 from D W Musgrave, Sowerby Wood. Beltex lambs peaked at £150 from G B Milroy, Mains of Machermore.

Longer keep lambs met some slight resistance due to the wet weather over the past week, however still look well sold for the time of year.  Blackface lambs reached £130 from R Anderson, Ardoch Farm, Thornhill. Followed closely behind with a pen of North Country Cheviots at £125 from Archbank Farming.   

A smaller show of 305 feeding ewes and cast tups forward, jumping to another level as they certainly look to be drying up. A fantastic Texel ewe from G B Milroy, Mains of Machermore finished up at £195.
