The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart held a show and sale
of hoggs on behalf of the Hill Cheviot Sheep Society at Longtown on
Thursday 19th March, 2009.
A tremendous entry of 29 pens of 20 hoggs
were forward and ably judged by John Horncastle of North Country
Primestock who awarded the championship to a pen of 46kg hoggs from
Messrs Carruthers, Woodhall, Eastriggs which realised £84 to Woodhead Bros.
The
reserve champions were a pen of 43kg from Messrs Little, No 9 Howes
which realised £80
to Euro Quality Meats.
The 580 hoggs forward averaged £71.94
per head and 40.4kg which equated to a 180p.kg average.
