hoggs and 4,655 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown
on Thursday 11th March, 2010.
The 40 prime cattle saw more heavyweights
on offer with averages down on the week. Limousin heifers to 187.5p,
179.5p, 173.5p, 172.5p and 171.5p Hallburn. Limousin bullocks to
169.5p, 167.5p and 164.5p Toppin Castle. Charolais bullocks to £1,180
Sceughdyke; British Blue £1,135.
The 9 over thirty month cattle
were a plainer show which again met a sharper trade with Blue Grey
steers selling to 132.5p (£675.75)
from T.D. Bell & Sons, Moorhills Farm. Limousin cows to £878.15
Becton Hall; Ayrshire £511.50.
Another large show of 5,590 prime hoggs, a full ring of buyers saw
trade remain buoyant for well fleshed quality export hoggs, which
were short of demand and frequently sold between £2 and £2.40
per kilo, but more heavy hoggs over 46 kilos proved harder to cash
following national trend.
The 4,474 hoggs under 46 kilos averaged
189.7p whilst the 1,116 hoggs over 46 kilos averaged 185p. Top price
per kilo of 259p for Beltex’s from Messrs Gribbon, Waterside
and to £106.50 per head for Texels from Newbiggin, £97.50
