The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers mart held their annual young
handlers show and sale of prime lambs, together with show and sale
of Longtown YFC prime lambs at Longtown on Thursday 5th August, 2010.
The annual young handlers competition was kindly sponsored by Farmers
Guardian. A large entry of 65 lambs was presented to the judge Andrew
Dawson of Sedbergh. A fantastic show for quality and a credit to
the young handlers showing them.
The champion lamb came from the
8 to 11 year old class and went to Joe Bouch, Copperthorns. The centre
record was smashed when the champion lamb weighing 43 kilos sold
at £300
(698p/kg) to Brian and Wendy Ross, The Proprietors of The Robin Hood
Inn, Smithfield, Carlisle.

Champion single went to Thomas Hope with a superb lamb weighing 44kg
selling at £100 to J Tucker. 2nd was Alice Dickinson, 3rd Rachel
Edminson. The best dressed lamb went to Robert Carruthers, 2nd Alice
Dickinson, 3rd Rachel Edminson. Best pair went to Rachel Edminson
weighing 44kg and realising £86 to Michael Lomax, 2nd Linda
Edminson, 3rd Robert Carruthers.
