The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward
54 prime cattle, 14 young bull, 24 over thirty month cattle, 1,046
spring lambs, 931 prime hoggs and 5,176 cast ewes & rams at their
weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 16th June,
2011.
A smaller show of prime cattle and another good show of well fleshed
cattle were on offer. Topping the sale was a Limousin bullock from
A & W J Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen which sold to 199.5p
and purchased by W Kirkup & Sons, Butchers, Longtown, others
to 198.5p (twice) from Toppin Castle and 197.5p The Gill. Mr. Irving
of Toppin Castles run of cattle averaged out at 195.1p with Mr. Nicholson,
The Gill's cattle levelling at 191.1p.

There was a smaller show than required of spring
lambs. The sale
averaged 214p which was well in front of this weeks trade. This was
only due to lack of numbers. Lambs look likely to settle between
200p and 220p per kilo. The sale topped at £110.50 for Suffolks
from Linton House and Texels from Rhoin and to 242p for Texels from
Cubby Hill.
