58 prime cattle, 11 young bulls, 36 over thirty month cattle, 4,189
prime lambs and 7,240 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at
Longtown on Thursday 30th August 2012.
Prime cattle saw a shortage of fed cattle, but a full ring of 12
active buyers ensured a good trade throughout. Top price to 219.5p
for a Limousin heifer shown by J. Bell, Brydekirk Mains, purchased
by W. Kirkup & Sons, Butchers, Longtown. Top price bullock to
212.5p for a Limousin from J.F. & I. Armstrong, Nether Onsett.

A smaller show of 4,189 prime lambs were a mixed trade this week
with a big difference between lambs with flesh and lean lambs, good
lambs regularly sold between 190p and 200p but leaner lambs were
little more than store price. The sale averaged 181p per kilo, also
a large number of lightweight lambs were forward, reflecting in the
average.

top price per head of £110.50 for Suffolks from Riddings Hill, £99.50

A larger entry of 7,240 cast ewes and rams attracted
the usual ring of buyers with trade being £4 to £6 up
on the week, with a very good show of ewes for quality forward. Good
selling Continental ewes remain easily sold and rams constantly short
of buyers requirements.
