PRIMESTOCK REPORTS

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 86 prime cattle, 12 young bulls, 23 over thirty month cattle, 3,279 prime lambs and 6,107 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 12th September 2013.

Another large show of prime cattle saw quality dearer on the week with the sale topping at 263.5p for a Limousin heifer shown by D.J. Garthwaite & Son, Wyseby Hill Cottage. Limousin bullocks sold to 261.5p from A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen.

The 3,279 prime lambs were a similar show for numbers with more buyers forward, best quality lambs keenly sought after regularly between 220p and 240p, other lambs similar on the week, lightweight lambs short of requirements. The overall average 169p per kilo was well in line with this weeks trading. Top price of £98.20 per head for Texels from Kirkton and to 237p per kilo for Texels from Corriefield.
