The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire
Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward a catalogue entry of 717 head at
their Annual Ram Fair on Wednesday 5th October 2005.
A large company
of buyers were present with trade dear for good quality sheep.
Bluefaced
Leicesters sold to £2,200
and £1,600 for shearlings from A. Carruthers, The Loan, Roadhead
who also had the top flock average of £1,373. Other
shearlings sold to £400 (x3) Wanwood Hill and Snowden Close, £350
Snowden Close and The Side. Two shear rams to £500
The Row, £420 The Flatt; three shear £500 Midtodhills
and Sunnyside. Bluefaced Leicester gimmer shearlings topped
at £220 from Midtodhills, others £200 The Row, £180
Wyliebrae; ewe lambs £90 Hazelwood, £80 Lanehead.
At
the show of Bluefaced Leicesters held prior to the sale, judging
was ably carried out by Mr William Underwood of Longtown whose
awards were as follows:-
1st prize shearling ram – Messrs

2nd prize shearling ram – Mrs A.M. Little, The Close, Hethersgill.
3rd prize shearling ram – Mrs C.L. MacGillivray, Troutbeck
Cottage, Heads Nook.
1st prize ram lamb – Drumrash Farming
Partnership, Parton, Castle Douglas.
2nd prize ram lamb – Mrs A.M. Little, The Close, Hethersgill.
3rd prize ram lamb – Drumrash Farming Partnership, Parton,
Castle Douglas.
Texel shearling rams sold to £480 from Whitcastles,
followed at £380 East Middles and £320 Catslackburn;
Suffolk to £480 Whitcastles, £420 Grains Cottage; Charollais £350
Upper Auchenlay, £280 Annandale (Scott); Beltex £220
Shielsknowe; Zwartbles £140 Garris Lodge; North Country Cheviot £130
