The
Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. sold a record
entry for the firm of 361 rams of all breeds at the Cydectin Kelso
Ram Sales on Friday 13th September
2013, after managing
to secure the selling of over 200 MV Accredited crossbred rams
in Ring 2.
Trade was beyond vendor’s expectations as was proved in
the overall sale average being back only £1.50 with more
rams finding new homes and vendors expressing their delight at
the days trading and the service provided. With 33 rams from our
consignors realising
£1,000 or more, the quality on offer was clear for all to
see
In our new section of crossbred rams a Kelso Ram Sale record for
crossbred sheep of
£3,000 was achieved when a Beltex x Texel from B. Ryder,
Newton Cottages sold to Messrs Hall, Inglewood Edge, Carlisle.
Also on Thursday evening we held the Annual Show for unregistered
Texel rams in Ring 18 where consignors from all firms selling in
this ring were invited to show.
The event was again kindly sponsored
by Tarff Valley and a large ring of 26 shearling rams were presented
to the judge Mr D. McTaggart, Ormiston Farm, Hawick, who awarded
the Championship to ram number 4783 from Messrs MacKay, Westhills,
Rothbury (sold through North East Livestock) which went on to realise £1,100.
2nd place was awarded to lot 4878 from far travelled
first time consignor, Phillip Weaver, Little Manor, Nottinghamshire
(sold by C & D Farmers Mart) which went on to realise £1,400.
3rd place was given to lot 4826 from Floors Farming,
Rawburn (sold by J. Swans & Sons) and realising £900.
The top call of the day was £3,000 for a Beltex x Texel
shearling ram from B. Ryder, Newton, who also had the days top
flock average of £940 for a consignment of 10.
