July Jewels at Longtown

C & D Auction Marts Ltd held their annual July Jewels sale of Texel and other MV breeding sheep at Longtown on Monday 22nd July 2024. A smaller entry was forward owing to the current restrictions on exports but a good ringside of buyers were in attendance enhanced by online bidding.

Pedigree Texel gimmer shearlings sold well to average £605.90, up £19 on the year.  The Ettrick flock of Gordon Gray took top honours, selling to 1,400 gns for a Midcombe Fireball daughter out of a Strawfrank Catalyst dam.  She was bought by B.I. & B.M. Mosey, Gilling East, York.  Ettrick also sold at 1,000 gns for a gimmer by Cosyn Texels Formula One from a Midcombe Brigadier ewe which sold to H.B. Wharton of Tebay. 

Steven Renwick of Craig Douglas had sales to 700gns, to J. Cowe, Little Howes, Orkney as did Robert Wilson, Milnbank with his 700gns sale going to Messrs Berry, Bolton by Bowland.  Messrs Hadwin, Broughton in Furness bought a Knap gimmer, from Robert Cockburn at 650gns with others to 600gns (twice) from Craig Douglas.

David Gray`s Burrows flock, Lindean sold Blue Texel gimmers with three at 500gns each, to Messrs Irving, Mountbenger and James McElroy, Summerhill. Pedigree Suffolk gimmers made to 700gns and 600gns from the Vallum flock of Andrew Hewson, Burgh by Sands.
