The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart held a special sale
of 768 store cattle at Longtown on Saturday
30th August 2008. The
sale was brought forward due to the Blue Tongue restrictions coming
up to the Scottish Borders on the 1st September.
There was a good show
of cattle comprising of Continentals, Bluegrey, Galloway and Angus.
There was a full ringside of buyers from Scotland and England resulting
in a very brisk trade through out the whole of the sale.
Top price of the day was a Charolais bullock at £950
from T Bell & Son, Clement Leazes and purchased by D Megahy,
Selkirk. There was a very good show of Limousin cattle from W H & D
A Gass, Nunscleugh who sold to a top of £905 for a Limousin
bullock to D M Dickinson, Brockwoodlees. They also sold a top pen
of bullocks at £900 to Neil Brand, Fife. Belgian Blues to £720
from G & A Scott, Summerhill and purchased by W & W Faulder,
Houghton House. Included in the sale was a very good show of Bluegrey
cattle with the top price of £685 from A Murray & Sons,
Sewing Shields, Haydon Bridge and purchased by J Alder. The top Galloway
was from Messrs Graham & Son, Thomasdene selling at £575
to J Alder.
