The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had forward 140 store
cattle and 69 breeding cattle (59 cows & heifers with calves,
8 bulling heifers and 2 breeding bulls) at their fortnightly sale
on Tuesday 18th August, 2009.
Store cattle saw trade strong throughout
the sale. Top price of £860
for a Blonde d’Aquitaine bullock from Messrs Dinnin, Nether
Albie, Waterbeck.
Breeding cattle met a fine trade throughout the
sale with plenty bidders in attendance. The highlight of the sale
was a run of very good Limousin heifers with Limousin calves from
Messrs Rome, Shawhead, selling to a top of £1,520 and averaging £1,350.
Other top prices to £1,650 for an Angus cow (2nd calver) with
Limousin bull calf from P.C. & J.A. Noble, Walmgate.
