store sheep ringThe Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. had forward 4,679 store lambs at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 7th October, 2008.

Store lambs met a similar trade. Top was £55 for Texels from Beckses, £46 Blinkbonny, £45 Gillalees; Suffolks £42.50 Claryghyll, £42 Gillalees, £40 Southdene & Kirndean; Zwartbles £48, £47 Faugh Head; Beltex £41 East Foreshield; Greyfaces £37.50 Flatt, £37 High Edges Green & Coatlith Hill; Charollais £36.80 Townfoot; Blackfaces £37 Horseholm, £36 West Hottbank, £35.50 Lamperts; Swaledales £22 Underbank; Herdwicks £30 Boathouse.

Hill Cheviots (1522) were a larger show and a good trade. Top was £40 from Parkhill, others to £36 Greenside & Linhope, £35.50 Wardlaw.

Breeding sheep were a smaller show with best ewes easy to sell. Top was £66, £61 for Suffolk ewes from Hallees, with Lleyns to £44 The Height; Hill Cheviots £24 Hawkshaw. Shearlings to £56 for Greyfaces from The Close, Lleyn crosses to £45 The Height. Feeding ewes to £35 Colisinn Steading.
