store sheep ringThe Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 4,432 store lambs and breeding sheep at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 4th November 2008.

Another good show attracted welsh buyers with all classes again very dear.

Top was £49 for Texel lambs from Lustruther, others to £48.20 Plankey Mill; Beltex £46.20, £43.80 Kinning Hall; Greyfaces £43.20, £39.80 Plankey Mill, £38.20 Dykenook; Suffolks £40 Lustruther, £39.50 Hudgillrigg; North Country Cheviots £38 Browtop, £37.50 Hillcrest; Charollais £36 Henrys Hill; Lleyns £40.20 Heights; Blackfaces £39.50 Finchley, £37 Horseholm, £35.20 Over Cassock; Swaledales £24 Sheepriggs. Feeding ewes to £29.50 Dykerow.

Hill Cheviots (1,713) met another fast trade with a top of £38.20 from Hopsrigg, others to £36.50 Granton, £34 Burnfoot of Ewes.

Breeding sheep (512) were still in demand for quality.

Top was £56, £50 for correct Texel ewes from Finchley who also sold Suffolk crosses at £44; Hill Cheviots £36 Hillcrest; Greyfaces £32 Barnglieshead; Blackfaces £25 Patervan; Swaledales £18 Greenycleugh;

Greyface ewe lambs £43.50, £42.50 Kilncroft.
