STORE & BREEDING SHEEP REPORT


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had forward 3,874 Store Lambs at their Weekly Sale at Longtown on Tuesday 9th August, 2011.

Store lambs were a larger entry with trade excellent and many buyers operating.

Top was £70.80 for Suffolks from Hullerbank followed at £70 Satchells (who averaged £67.82). Texels to £70 Rinnion Hills, £69 Bayles; Charollais £62.20 Haswellsykes; Cheviot Mules £64 Viewley; Cheviots £65.50 Satchells; Blackfaces £46.50 Cowcorse, £46 Kirklawhill; Swaledales £36 Naddle.
The special sale of Mule wethers were a great show with trade buoyant throughout. Top was £65.50 High Loveladyshield, £65 Parsonshields, £61.50 Whintingstown and Eastcragside, £60 Blacksmiths Cottage.

Breeding sheep were easy to sell and short of requirements. Shearlings to £140 for Mules from Linton House who also sold Suffolk x at £132 and Texels £127. Ewes to £93 for Texels from Carpet Farm, who also sold Suffolk x at £92; Charollais £88; Greyface £88 and Hill Cheviots £69. Cast ewes to £91.
