STORE & BREEDING SHEEP REPORT


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had forward 1,223 breeding ewes and 3,554 Store Lambs at their Weekly Sale at Longtown on Tuesday 16th August, 2011.

The Special August sale of Breeders saw more numbers forward on the year with quality better. All classes enjoyed a fast selling trade and more could easily have been sold.

Top was £140 for Mule shearlings from Englishtown and for Suffolk cross shearlings from Dairy House Farm; Beltex £132 Dairy House Farm. Ewes to £138 for Texels from Dairy House Farm and Greyface from Calvo; Suffolk £114 Stackbraes; Lleyn £113 The Mark.

Ewe lambs to £84 for Suffolks from Carpet Farm; Texel £75 Carpet Farm.

Store lambs were another good entry, more buyers present and all classes dearer on the week. Top of £80 for Beltex’s from Greenknowe; Texel £76.20 Rinnion Hills, £72 Carpet Farm; North Country Cheviot £70 Penfoel; Suffolk £70 Linton House, £68.50 Nethertown; Charollais £64 Nethertown; Blackface £60 Silloans; Hill Cheviot £55 Mainside.

Another great show of Greyface Mule lambs met an excellent trade. Top of £66.20 Sunnyside, £62.20 Bayldon, £61.50 Carpet Farm, £60.80 Parsonshield, £60 High Parkfoot and Stonehall.

Cast ewes to £77 Stackbraes.
