STORE & BREEDING SHEEP REPORT


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had forward 5,705 Store Lambs (including 1,805 Cheviots & 1,403 Blackfaces) at their Weekly Sale at Longtown on Wednesday 14th September, 2011.

Stores were a marvellous show and with plenty buyers around the ring, trade was again excellent.

Top of £73.50 for Suffolks from East Foreshield, £70.50 Low Old Shield; Texel £71.80 Alderley Terrace, £70.50 Rinnion Hills; Beltex £70 Murthat; North Country Cheviot £65.50 East Murton; Greyface £63.50 Bowershield, £62.50 Cooks House; Cheviot Mule £59 Bayles; Swaledale £40 Naddle.

Breeding ewes to £111 Linton House. Feeding ewes to £80.50 Linton House.

At the show and sale for Hill Cheviots and Blackfaces there was an excellent quality entry and both breeds met a very strong trade.

The judge, Mr Eddie Eastham, Naddle Farm, Bampton, Penrith made his awards as follows:-

Hill Cheviots
1st prize – Mr J.W. Hislop, Windyhaugh, sold at £60.
2nd prize – Mrs L.G. Luescher, Glendinning, sold at £62.50.
3rd prize – Messrs Common, Crossdykes, sold at £58.

Other prices:- £59.50 Commonside, £59 Clerkhill, £58.50 Sundhope.

Blackfaces
1st prize – Messrs Robson, Yatesfield, , sold at £62.50.
2nd prize – Messrs Robson, Townshield, sold at £63.
3rd prize – Dalgleish & Waugh, The Crewe, sold at £53.50.

Other prices:- £62.50 Bowershields.
