Sale ringThe Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 1,071 head of ewes with lambs at foot at their sale on Tuesday 24th April, 2012.

A larger show attracted a full ring of buyers with all classes at extreme rates and short of requirements.

Top was £225 each for a pure Texel ewe with single tup lamb from Master Thomas Hall, Knells Farm, who also sold Bleu d’Maines with twins at £155 each.

Correct ewes with singles – Texel £72 Cleughbrae; Greyface £72 Sydenham; North Country Cheviot £70 Sydenham; Leicester £68 Knells; Cheviot Mule £67 Isle of Dalton.

Correct ewes with twins – Charollais £79 Moss Side; Texel £77 Cleughbrae; Suffolk £77 Cleughbrae; Greyface £73.50 Moss Side; North Country Cheviot £60 Gospel Hall; Herdwick £38 Bayles.

Correct ewes with triplets – Bleu d’Main £85 Knells; Texel £58 Knells.

Shearlings with singles to £72 for Greyface from Isle of Dalton. Shearlings with twins to £72 for Greyface from Station Road.

Hoggs with singles to £90 for Texels from Sydenham.

Geld hoggs to £142 and £130 Knells.

Stock rams to £170 for Suffolk, Texel £155, Leicester £150 and Beltex £125 all from Knells Farm.

Store hoggs to £65 for Texels from Linton House, Cheviot £62 Cleughbrae.

Cast ewes to £84 Cottage Farm, hill types £64.50 Bayles.
