Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 3,041 prime lambs and 4,002 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 22nd December 2015.
A small entry of prime & OTM cattle due to the festivities and an off day. Prime cattle sold to 209.5p for a Charolais heifer shown by T. Armstrong & Sons, Sceughdyke. Limousin heifers to 201.5p also from Sceughdyke. Limousin bullocks sold to 193.5p from J.F. & I. Armstrong, Nether Onsett.
A smaller show of 3,041 prime lambs were forward to the usual full ring of buyers looking for sheep. Export lambs and lambs up to 48 kilos met a sharper trade on the week, with 50 kilo plus lambs easier. Lightweight lambs also met a good selling trade. Many more export weight lambs required. Overall average of 168p per kilo (SQQ 173.2p).
Top price of 217p per kilo for Texels from Nether Brotherstone with a top per head of £89 for Texels from Allanshaws.
