Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,629 sheep comprising of 4,331 prime hoggs, 111 store hoggs and 2,187 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 16th April 2020.

Another tremendous entry of hoggs forward, with heavy hoggs proving difficult to cash whilst the fed export and light hoggs sold to a premium, of which many more can be sold to vendor advantage.

Topping the sale at 320ppk were a pen of Beltex hoggs from T. Magnay, Brisco Meadows. Top price per head was £146 for Texel hoggs from Douganhill Farm, Orchardton Mains.

Again, best Beltex lambs were in seriously short supply with trade maintaining last weeks outstanding returns and several pens breaching 300ppk.

Light hoggs were again dear, topping at 275p for Beltex from Hill Close.

Hill hoggs sold to £100 for Cheviots from M. & S. Cameron, Balmaglester & W. Moffat, Kirtlebank, with Blackfaces to £92.50 from E. & RE. Eastham, Longburgh Fauld & D. & Y. Wilson, Plumpe.

Overall average 206.9p (SQQ 219.4p)
