Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,291 sheep comprising of 2,526 spring lambs and 3,765 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 20th July 2023.
An improved offering of cast cows forward, meeting a brisk trade. More numbers are required on a weekly basis to fulfil demand here at Longtown. The sale topped at 230p for a Limousin shown by Wanwood Partners, Wanwood Hill, Alston.
A larger show of 2,526 spring lambs. Commercial export lambs proved harder to place, whilst 44kg plus commercial lambs proved to be in demand, also best export lambs and heavies were good to cash.
The sale topped at £155 for Beltex shown by J & A Moralee, Hardriding Farm, Bardon Mill with Suffolks selling to £150 from J & D Longlands, Tone Hall, Hexham.
Top price per kilo of 344p for Beltex lambs again from J & A Moralee, Hardriding Farm, Bardon Mill.
All classes of well finished lambs are wanted here at Longtown on a weekly basis to satisfy an ever-growing demand as numbers increase so do purchasers. Please do not hesitate to contact your auctioneers who will be pleased to take your calls.

A similar show 3,765 cast ewes and rams were forward to an increased ring of purchasers ensuring all classes of stock were competitively bid for. A ring of 16 potential purchasers were in attendance which provides the most competitive, transparent live ring in the country. A larger show of hill ewes and lightweight ewes were forward, and trade was there from the off. Heavy ewes sold to premium rates with good selling Texel ewes still short of purchaser’s requirements.
A huge Texel ewe topped the sale at £300 consigned by M/s BJ Haigh, Breckon Hill, Hexham.
Hill ewes to £110 for Blackfaces from Carskiey Ltd, Carskiey Estate, Campbeltown.
Rams also sold to £300 for Texels from CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries.
